Festival Indonesia 2024 lit up Melbourne in October with the theme “Advancing Eastern Indonesia by Linking Culture with Development.” The festival celebrated the vibrant cultures of Eastern Indonesia through performances, business showcases, and community connection—following the record-breaking 2023 edition that united over 1,200 Manortor dancers outside Indonesia.
As the design lead for this year’s festival, the full visual identity was shaped from scratch—starting with vector builds in Adobe Illustrator and evolving through collaborative workflows in Canva. From posters and merchandise to digital content and event promo in social media, every piece was crafted to reflect the festival’s bold spirit and cultural heartbeat—with just the right mix of detail-obsessed design and creative chaos.

A central element in the visual identity was a custom super graphic inspired by traditional Eastern Indonesian art. The design drew from the bold, geometric patterns of Papuan shields crafted by the Asmat tribe, blended with the organic, flowing motifs of tree bark paintings by the Asei people of Lake Sentani. Digitally reinterpreted, this visual fusion became a cultural anchor—supporting the festival’s theme while adding texture, rhythm, and a touch of vector geekery to everything from stage backdrops to social media posts.
